    Community Dialogues

    Safer South Africa Foundation

The Safer South Africa Foundation, in collaboration with community youth-based structures, organises structured community engagement dialogues to address critical issues such as safety, security, and crime prevention. These discussions often expand to cover social cohesion, unemployment, and socio-economic challenges. The dialogues aim to raise awareness about the importance of community safety, foster support from key groups, and encourage collective problem-solving, particularly among young people. By involving diverse stakeholders—government, religious and traditional leaders, community figures, and civil society—these dialogues create a platform for sharing concerns, opinions, and solutions to build safer, more cohesive communities.

Road Safety Youth Dialogues – Road Accident Fund

The Road Accident Fund (RAF), in collaboration with the Safer South Africa Foundation, conducted Youth Road Safety Dialogues in 14 high-accident communities across South Africa. These dialogues provided a platform for youth to voice their perspectives, engage in discussions, and acquire essential road safety knowledge from RAF officials and stakeholders. Emphasising collaboration, the sessions encouraged participants to identify local road safety challenges and propose innovative project ideas to address them, fostering community-driven solutions. Participants were encouraged to form local groups to address specific road safety issues, supported by RAF and its partners. These dialogues empowered youth to take ownership of road safety, fostering enthusiasm and commitment to drive change. The initiative promoted community engagement and cultivated a new generation of road safety advocates dedicated to reducing accidents and enhancing safety.

    Youth Dialogues - Harmony Mine

The Safer South Africa Foundation, in partnership with Harmony Gold Mines, hosted a community dialogue in Khutsong, Carletonville, Gauteng, engaging nearly 150 youth to address safety and crime challenges. Facilitated by experts and stakeholders from law enforcement, education, and community organizations, the session enabled youth to discuss concerns and propose solutions. A task team was formed to follow up on issues, while participants learned asset-based community development (ABCD) to leverage local resources. Supported by organisations like Faded Black Innovations, LoveLife, and Harmony Gold Mines, the dialogue empowered youth to drive community-driven initiatives, fostering collaboration and sustainable change in crime prevention.
